It’s been a while since my last post.
I can’t believe how quickly time has passed by – fall is already over and Xmas is knocking on the door. I would be lying if I said I hadn’t had some attempts for some garment sewing.. however, they failed miserably. But oh well, at least I learnt some lessons from each and got reminded over again of the importance of patience. So a piece of wisdom for tonight: Don’t try to urge things to happen, better enjoy the journey and get quality results. 🙂
I have been planning to make this burgundy leather skirt for a while too. Well, exactly since this year’s season of X-factor started and I got amazed by all the glamour and fashion in the show. That resulted in me starting to look up Rita Ora outfits.. she is just simply gorgeous. She wore a burgundy street style outfit in one of the pics and I loved the leather skirt that is so much in fashion now. Last weekend I finally got to making it 🙂 just in time for the show’s final 😀
In an earlier December issue of Burda magazine, I found a similar skirt, interestingly also out of leather fabric. I made the skirt a bit longer than of the original pattern but shorter than Rita’s version. I found it would be too long for my style.
I got the fabric – that is actually a faux leather – online.
What do you need to make this skirt?
- Burda magazine (12/2011) pattern 124
- 2 metres leather of faux leather fabric
- 20 cm zip in the same colour
First, sew the centre front seam line together and fold as indicated by the arrows in the front pattern piece. Fix it by sewing through the top part.
Next, take in the back pieces and sew together the centre back seam line including the zip.
Create the belt for the front and the back too and sew it to the top of each of the pieces.
Finally, sew through the side seam lines and your Rita Ora style skirt is ready 🙂
